Can you believe it’s the new year already? What an amazing year 2017 was for me really. I turned 30, decided to make a proper go of my blog, switched jobs, bought a Mulberry AND I booked my wedding. There’s always ups and downs along the way, but overall, 2017 wasn’t a bad year.
It was also a good year for beauty. While granted, it was probably my most expensive year for beauty, but it has led me to discover some fantastic new products that have become essentials for my collection. So what were the standouts this year? Take a look at some of my favourite products of 2017.
NARS Bord de Plage Palette
I think 2017 was the year I became the highlighter queen. I have so many now I actually feel embarrassed mentally totting it up in my head… But anyway, one of the standouts for me was this amazing Bord de Plage palette. I got it at an absolute bargain because of a website glitch + my discount and I LOVE it. Four highlighters in extremely wearable colours and two bronzers (including the amazing Laguna) make this a dream palette. I took it on holiday with me and it was all I needed for a beautiful glow at all times. It’s limited edition but they’re still around so get one while you get the chance!
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
The quest for the perfect eyeliner is never easy. For over a year I used a MAC eyeliner brush dipped in mascara because nothing was ever quite right. Move over the Kat Von D Tattoo liner. I’d always heard good things but never tried it, and so glad I did. I use it nearly every day and it’s the perfect black, easy-to-use eyeliner. It’s coming to the end I think now after 4 months use which is pretty good. It doesn’t budge, and I can do a really good flick with it now. It even works over metallics and glitters – something which isn’t always easy.
Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick
I’d had samples in the past but this was the first year of buying Charlotte Tilbury products. For my first order I had to get two of them – Pillow Talk and Nude Kate. I loved the shades and the formula and as a dedicated MAC lipstick whore, I surprised myself by how much I liked them. 9 months later, I now have 7… I think my favourite colour has to be Kim K West – it’s the perfect shade of nude and I really love it. I expect there will be even more shades released next year, but because my New Year’s Resolution is to limit my beauty spend (or try to anyway…), I don’t think I’ll be buying more, yet.
Illamasqua Precision Brow Gel
I’m all about the brows. I’ve tried a lot of different products and am often frustrated at how they never match my brow colour. I remembered an old Fleur De Force video where she reviewed this product and decided to give it a go. I’m so glad I did. I wear ‘Awe’ and it’s the perfect shade for my brows. I never like anything that looks too obvious – I like a natural look with some definition and never exaggerating what I’ve got. This product is lovely to apply and it stays in place all day. Where there were once three brows products, there’s now just the one. And it will probably be just this one forever!
MAC ‘In The Flesh’ Palette
While I was very disappointed not to get the Basic Bitch palette (food poisoning in Italy meant I couldn’t go back for it on my last day), the release of this great x15 palette was a welcome addition to my collection. It’s a good all-round palette packed with mostly matte shades in neutral colours – I could stick to it quite easily really if I had no other options (something that’s definitely not true!). If you want a good value palette, don’t be put off by the price tag of the x15 palettes – they’re amazing.
And there you have it, I managed to narrow it down to 5! What have your favourite beauty buys been of 2017 and is there anything on your wishlist for 2018?
