Throwing a Memorable Wedding Reception

Throwing a Memorable Wedding Reception

*This is a contributed post*

The bride and groom are the two most important people at any wedding and they should be able to relax and have a good time. They will only be able to do this though if they think their guests are enjoying themselves too. There are, of course, the standard things like making sure the food served is good and there is some great music, but what else could you do to make sure the guests at your wedding have some fun?

Plan For The Kids

Have a separate seating area for the kids at your wedding reception, so their parents can enjoy their meals in peace. It is even a good idea to hire a nanny to look after the smallest of them for a few hours.  Provide a few games for the children to play when they have eaten, and the moms and dads will be much more relaxed.

Surprise Entertainments

This can be easier than you may think. You can hire a table magician to wander around and wow the guests with their tricks while they are having drinks, or surprise them with a dance troop doing a routine before everyone else gets on the dance floor.

You could also hire a party photo booth with some wacky props. Your guests could have great fun experimenting with these.

Get Them Dancing

It can sometimes be difficult to get people up and dancing and you do not want the DJ or band to be playing to an empty floor. You could give each table a signature tune and let them know when that starts to play it is their turn to get up for a dance. Alternatively, you could hold an expansion dance. This starts with the bride and groom picking a partner, and then that partner has to choose someone else. No one is allowed to sit down until the floor is full, and by then people will be enjoying the dancing and are not so likely to return to their tables.

Have A Quiet Area

There could be some guests who are elderly or who have perhaps been unwell, that sometimes need a space where they can just sit and relax for a while. Having a quiet area allows them to do this, although when you get several people in there they will all start chatting and it will not be quite so quiet.

Wedding Favours

Something with your names on and the date can make a great gift for your guests to take away with them. It could be as simple as a piece of the cake in a small box with the details on or something that will not get eaten such as some sunglasses, or a mug. Something to remember the day by always goes down well with guests, and it is a bonus if the item is useful too.

Your wedding day is all about you and the person you are marrying, but you will enjoy it a whole lot more if you are not worrying if your guests are having a good time as well.
