Obviously I’m a MAC addict so the best thing I can get for my birthday is some vouchers to go wild. Once a year I’ll have a major splurge for my birthday and pick up all the bits I’ve had my eye on! My wonderful fiancé financed a large chunk of this trip, as well as generous friends and I was thrilled to pick up some new products from the MAC store in Westfield Stratford after an afternoon of bridal browsing.
MAC Neutral Warm x15 Palette
Scott bought me the Neutral Cool Palette a couple of Christmases ago and it’s one of my favourite palettes! I recently went into my local MAC store and loved one of the eye looks the artists had created and asked her what she used and as she’d said it was this palette, I decided it had to go straight onto my shopping list. They used to cost £65, which I still thought was a bargain (15 x single refill shadows = £150) but now they’ve reduced them to £49.50. That may seem expensive for a palette but you get a lot of product for your money and it’s far cheaper than building your collection up individually. There’s some great shades here and I can’t wait to try them out!
MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double Gleam
The Extra Dimension Skinfinish products were mainly available in special editions (like the MAC Nutcracker Sweet collection for last year’s Christmas sets), but now they have four permanent shades. I already have Beaming Blush and Show Gold and I really wanted Double Gleam. It creates a wonderful golden glow that’s a bit more strobey than the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish and has a smooth finish, almost like a liquid highlighter. I know I’m going to end up getting the last in the collection too at some point!
MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in High Drama
I really love the Retro Matte lipsticks so wanted to try a liquid version. As tempted as I was to buy a nude product, I opted for High Drama, which is a dark plum, almost burgundy shade. I love the texture of it and the formula is non-drying, as well as lasting ages! I’m going to use it with MAC Lip Liner in Burgundy for a red wine lip!
MAC Big Brow Pencil in Fling
MAC brow products are fantastic, and I used to love their Brow Pencil but found it ran out way too quickly, or it got lost because of its small size. I’ve just come to the end of my Brow Sculpt which was great, but I wanted to give this a try as it was a larger version of the Brow Pencil and would hopefully last a bit longer! I’d love to venture back to gels but they shades aren’t quite what I want yet.
MAC Sheertone Blush in Trace Gold
Sheertone blushes were some of the first MAC products I truly fell in love with, until they discontinued my favourite shade (Shimmer Sweet) and broke my heart. Sadly that last pot of blush met its maker when it fell out of my handbag onto the road and smashed into a million pieces… Anyhoo. Trace Gold is a bronze colour you’d never think of purchasing but it’s great for creating a sunkissed look as well as being an alternative to bronzer, which can be a bit dark on some skin tones! I bought the Pro Pan refill as I have space in one of my palettes for it.
MAC Powder Blush in Desert Rose
It’s been a while since I’ve bought a MAC blusher, and I really wanted to pick one up that I could use when I’m out and about instead of carrying my NARS palettes everywhere. This is a dusky pink colour which is subtle and matte and good for natural day looks so I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it!
MAC Lip Conditioner
I had my makeup done at the Cardiff store recently and complained to the artist who did it about my dry lips. She handed me some of this to apply and I was really impressed by the effects! It was hydrating and got rid of the cracks straight away. I have so much lipstick I need to be better at prepping my lips so this is going to be a good start!
It’s nice to have a splurge every once in a while but I’m going to be doing my best to save now! I need to put the deposit down on my wedding venue and dress and everything will soon start mounting up before I know it!
What are your favourite MAC products? Or if you could have a beauty splurge, which 5 products would you pick?
